State of the Union Addresses? Now, we’re 1 for 9 in the last 9!
Obama can give a speech. He looked comfortable and actually human around the midpoint. And it only got better as the minutes ticked on. Maybe he took ole Billy Boy’s criticism to heart and consciously tried to instill a message of hope into his address to Congress. Perhaps he had gotten into governance mode without realizing that the Prez is under the constant scrutiny of a popularity contest. Dick Cheney, may god have mercy on his soul, could get away with cold governance, shunning rah-rah press conferences and pick me ups to the public. Nobody really wanted to see him speak, anyways.
In these turbulent, tough times, Obama’s steady hand and calculated approach is reassuring, but we, as a Nation, need to be uplifted. Imagine the high school football coach enters the locker room before the big game and gives a 20 minute dissection of their game plan and outlines why they will probably win. That’s great, but you need a little arm pumping, heart thumping, adrenalin rush to cap it off.
Obama delivered last night. Great speech. Time to govern.
